Enhanced Access

As part of the government’s pledge to provide 7 day care, our Practice will be part of a scheme which will provide additional access to patients during evenings and at weekends and throughout Bank Holiday periods.

We will be working as a federation to provide these additional out-of-hours appointments each week.

Each surgery will be providing services at different times and on different days, however you will be able to book into an available slot at ANY of the participating surgeries.  With your consent, the clinician who sees you, will have access to view your medical record. Please note that if you feel an onward referral to a specialist or any further investigations may be required, then it may be better to arrange an appointment with your own doctor, however, this is not essential.

These appointments will be aimed at extending routine GP care and have the additional benefit of responding to 111 request during the opening times.

To book an appointment for routine care during these clinic periods, please call your GP practice during normal working hours.

If you require an urgent  GP appointment when your surgery is closed please call 111. They will direct your request to the surgery providing cover at that time.

This service will NOT replace the current urgent 111 service at all other times.

Thursday Evening GP/Advanced Nurse Practitioner/Nurse Telephone Appointments – These are 15 minute pre-bookable appointments between the hours of 6.30pm – 8.00pm every week. These are bookable online or over the telephone.

Saturday GP/Nurse/HCA Appointments –

These are pre-bookable face to face appointments at Whitchurch Surgery between the hours of 8.00am – 1.00pm.

Monday – Friday Evening Clinical Pharmacist Telephone Appointments – we are working with FedBucks Clinical Pharmacists to offer 30 minute evening telephone appointments for Structured Medication Reviews between the hours of 6.30pm – 8.00pm.

A Structured Medicine REVIEW (SMR) is a comprehensive review of a patient’s medication, taking into consideration all aspects of their health. In a structured medication review clinicians and patients work as equal partners to understand the balance between the benefits and risks of any alternatives of taking medicines. The shared decision-making conversation being led by the patient’s individual needs, preferences and circumstances.

These appointments are booked by our Care Coordinators and eligible patients will be contacted.
