From 1st July 2025, updates to the routine childhood vaccination schedule have been introduced across the UK. These changes are based on the latest medical advice and are designed to offer even better protection for babies and young children. Further adjustments will follow from January 2026.
At our practice, your child’s health and safety remain our top priority. We understand that changes to the schedule may raise questions, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Meningitis B (MenB) Vaccine
Old Schedule: 8 weeks and 16 weeks
New Schedule: 8 weeks and 12 weeks
→ This change ensures babies receive protection earlier, at a more vulnerable age.
Pneumococcal (PCV13) Vaccine
Old Schedule: 12 weeks
New Schedule: 16 weeks
→ This helps reduce the number of injections at the 12-week visit, making the experience more comfortable for your baby.
Hib/MenC Vaccine
This vaccine will be phased out for children born after 1st July 2024, reflecting the updated risk levels and effectiveness of the new schedule.
Hepatitis B (for at-risk babies only)
The final dose will now be given at the 18-month appointment, removing the need for a separate booster at 12 months.
For children born after 1st July 2024, a new immunisation appointment will be added at 18 months of age. This will include:
A booster (hexavalent) vaccine for continued protection
The second dose of the MMR vaccine (if not already given at the 3 year 4-month appointment)
8-week appointment: No changes to the vaccines given at this stage.
3 year 4-month appointment: Continues to include the dTaP/IPV (diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis, and polio) and the second MMR dose (if not previously given at 18 months).
These updates aim to:
Protect children earlier from serious illnesses
Simplify the immunisation schedule
Reduce the number of injections per visit for a more positive experience
Our team is available to answer your questions and discuss how these changes affect your child’s immunisation schedule.
